‘The Return Of The God’- Ibrahimovic Recalled To Sweden Squad After Five Years
AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has earned a recall to the Sweden national team at the grand old age of 39.
Ibrahimovic was one of 26 players announced by Sweden manager Janne Andersson for this month’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Kosovo, plus a friendly game against Estonia.
The former Manchester United, Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain striker remains Sweden’s all-time top scorer with 62 goals in 116 appearances but has not featured for his country since the 2016 European Championships in France.
Ibrahimovic has recently flirted with the idea of returning to the national side and his wish has now been granted.
Asked what Ibrahimovic will bring to the team after announcing his final squad on Tuesday, Andersson told reporters: "First and foremost, he is a very good football player, the best we have had in Sweden.
"It is of course very funny that he wants to come back.
"In addition to what he can contribute on the pitch, he has incredible experience and can contribute it to other players in the team."
Ibrahimovic’s return paves the way for him to feature at his fifth European Championship later this summer.
Ibrahimovic tweeted: "The return of the God," after his return was confirmed.
Sweden are in the same group with Spain, Poland and Slovakia for EURO 2020.
Ibrahimovic has struck 14 goals in 14 games in Serie A for AC Milan this season.
