United finished bottom of their Champions League group following a 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich on Tuesday.

In a group also featuring Galatasaray and FC Copenhagen, United were expected to nick at least second spot but have crushed out of Europe entirely, with the Turkish side dropping into the Europa League with their third place finish.

Manchester United have work to do if they are to secure Champions League qualification next season as they currently sit sixth on the Premier League table and face Liverpool next.

The Red Devils are out of the Carabao Cup so the FA Cup remains their most viable chance of getting silverware this season.

“There are still many things to play for now, we can focus on the Premier League,” Ten Hag said.

“This is the level we want to play, the Champions League, so we have to give every effort to get into the top four so next year we are back in the Champions League – and of course there is the FA Cup so there are still many things to play for.”

Reflecting on the defeat to the German champions which sealed their exit in Europe, Ten Hag said: “I think the game was like this, both sides had less chances but I think there was a good intensity from our side.”

“We brought Bayern out of their rhythm, the defending organisation we did quite well if not very well, especially the first part of second half. Also we had a very good chance from Bruno, so we had our moments but didn’t take them.”
