Sarri Admits Dybala Shouldn’t Have Gone For Goal

The Argentine scored the only goal in the game against the La Liga outfit with a stunning free-kick right before halftime.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Sarri was elated with that extraordinary goal, but admitted that it was impossible to score from that angle against a keeper of Jan Oblak’s standard and he was skeptical before Dybala’s effort.

"Dybala scored a goal that nobody could have advised him to do," the former Napoli and Chelsea manager said.

"The first thing that a coach says in that situation is: 'What the f*ck are you shooting from over there?' And therefore what he did was extraordinary.”

"The applause was owed to him, for the performance but also for the technical skill which was extraordinary."

Ronaldo returned to the line-up after missing the Bianconeri’s game against Atalanta on Saturday, but the Portuguese struggled to make an impact against the Rojiblancos.

Sarri was asked if the former Real Madrid forward’s anonymous display affected his game plan, and the Italian quickly played down the suggestion.

"No, there was no problem with Ronaldo, the problem was the way we were occupying spaces,” he added.

"In the first half Paulo was often playing far away from the goal, Cristiano was not playing in the centre and therefore we were never occupying the central spaces.”

“We could have done this more with one of the two alternatively, when Paulo was going for the ball Cristiano could have played more in the center and when Cristiano was out Dybala could have gone less for the ball.”
