Sancho Fined By Dortmund For Tardiness
Borussia Dortmund have handed Jadon Sancho a €100,000 fine for reporting late to training following the recent international break.
Sancho was culled from the Borussia Dortmund side that won 1-0 over league leaders Borussia Monchengladbach at the Signal Iduna Park over the weekend as a punishment for his tardiness.
The 19-year-old started England’s 2-1 defeat to Czech Republic in the EURO 2020 qualifiers and appeared for the final 20 minutes as the Three Lions won 6-0 away at Bulgaria last Monday.
However, Sancho did not report on time for Dortmund’s preparations for the weekend and failed to give a tangible reason for his lateness, leaving Lucien Favre with no choice but to exclude him from his plans for Monchengladbach.
Dortmund’s Sporting Director Michael Zorc has revealed Sancho was handed the punishment as a precautionary measure.
"It's not that it happens often, but it's not the first time,” Zorc said.
“Jadon is a good boy, but he is still very, very young. He quickly grew up and occasionally pushes the limits. And then we are there to set those limits.
“We all know that Jadon is an excellent player, but it's not about the player. We have our responsibility to the entire team for the club. That is why this decision was the only right one for us."
Sancho has played seven Bundesliga games this season, scoring three goals and supplying six assists.
The former Manchester City youngster will likely be available again for selection when Dortmund travel to Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
