Salah Expresses Regret Over Missing Out On Champions League Glory

Real Madrid defeated Liverpool 1-0 at the Stade de France last Saturday to lift the trophy for a record-extending 14th time.

Prior to the game, Salah billed it as a revenge encounter following events in the 2018 final between the two sides when the Egyptian suffered a game-ending first half injury as Liverpool lost 3-1.

Salah was thwarted by Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois on a number of occasions on a frustrating night for Jurgen Klopp's men.

The former Chelsea winger has enjoyed another prolific campaign in front of goal, netting 31 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions.

Salah was awarded the Football Writers' Association player of the year and PFA Fans' player of the year awards for his efforts. He also finished as the Premier League's top goalcorer for a third time and won the playmaker award for the most assists in the top flight.

Despite the individual honours, Salah says he would swap his accolades for another shot at Champions League glory.

"Being recognised by the fans and by the sports journalists in the same season is something special that I will never forget," Salah posted on Twitter. 

"I would however give all those personal awards up for a chance at replaying that final, but that is not how football works.

"I cannot express in words how much we wanted to bring that trophy back to Liverpool but in the end we couldn't. I cannot thank the fans enough for your support.

"It has been a very long season but a part of me wishes the next one starts again tomorrow."
