Rio Ferdinand Bestows Chelsea Legendary Status On Havertz
Rio Ferdinand says Kai Havertz has already cemented his position as a Chelsea legend even if he does not play another game for the club.
Havertz has scored two of the most important goals in Chelsea’s history, striking against Manchester City in last season’s UEFA Champions League final and netting a decisive penalty that secured the club’s first ever FIFA Club World Cup triumph against Palmeiras last Saturday.
The 22-year-old Germany international joined Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2020 for £71m but Ferdinand feels he has already recouped the heavy outlay on him with the two decisive strikes.
‘He doesn’t have to kick a ball ever again in a Chelsea shirt, he’s repaid the £70m price tag now,’ the ex-Manchester United and England defender said on his Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE YouTube channel.
‘He’s scored two of the biggest goals in the history of the club.
‘Don’t have to do no more! Shut down, undo your boots, take ’em off, chill!
‘It’s not gonna happen but listen, if he doesn’t play another game for Chelsea he goes down in folklore.’
Havertz has made 28 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea this season, scoring six goals.
