‘Results Like This Happen’ – Ancelotti Calm After Newcastle Draw
Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti said he is pleased with his side’s performance in a 2-2 draw against Newcastle in the Premier League on Tuesday despite surrendering a 2-0 lead.
The Toffees were cruising to a comfortable win kind courtesy of goals from Moise Kean and in-form Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
As the game ticked deep into stoppage time, Florian Lejeune got two goals in quick succession to help the Magpies snatch a point at Goodison Park.
Speaking to the media after the game, Ancelotti disclosed the hosts played a good game, however luck eluded them.
The former Chelsea head coach said such results can happen in football, but his players must stay focused for the full 90 minutes.
"There are things in football you cannot control,” Ancelotti told reporters after the game.
“We conceded without any reason but the performance was good.”
"We played a fantastic game and we were unlucky but nothing changes – our Premier League continues, we have to stay focused.”
"We were two nil up, had opportunities to score and we played attacking football. I’m really pleased with the performance. These results are not frequent but they can happen.”
"We have to stay on the game for 90 minutes but I’m not saying anything to my players. They played well and it can happen. It's just unlucky for this game."
Kean finally scored his first goal for the Merseyside based club since his summer transfer from Juventus, and Ancelotti insists the goal was good for the youngster’s confidence.
"For his confidence it’s important. He played well and worked hard for the team. I'm pleased for him and this will do his confidence good."
