The Mexico international scored the only goal of the game as Wolves recorded their second victory of the season at the Saint Mary’s Stadium.

Jimenez’s strike ended a 336-day wait for a first goal for Wolves since suffering a fractured skull injury in a sickening clash of heads with Arsenal defender David Luiz in a Premier League game at the Emirates Stadium in November last year that brought his 2020/2021 season to a premature end.

The 30-year-old returned to competitive action for the first time in Wolves’ opening Premier League game against Leicester City and scored his first of the season over the weekend.

“Of course I have been looking for this goal since the start of the Premier League and now I feel really good – it feels fantastic to be back on the scoresheet,” he told Wolves TV.

“It means a lot; a lot of hard work during these nine months. I have to keep working like this, I have to be focused on what I want.

“I wanted this and I wanted to finish the puzzle. Now I am going to keep working to continue with this, keep scoring and helping the team to have more points.”

The former Benfica forward also paid tribute to the Wolves fans for their support.

“Since the first minute the accident happened, they were there,” he said of the supporters.

“I received a lot of support from them and it doesn’t matter if we lose or we win, they’re going to be with us in every moment – that’s what the Wolves family is.

“We’re working hard together in the pitch and they are feeling happy with us.”
