Rafa Benitez Sacked By Struggling La Liga Side Celta Vigo
Rafael Benitez has been sacked as manager of struggling Spanish La Liga side Celta Vigo.
Celta lie 17th on the La Liga table, just two points above the relegation zone.
They have won just five of their 28 league games so far this season, with their latest defeat coming in a 4-0 humbling at Real Madrid last weekend.
Former Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid manager Benitez was appointed by Celta in June last year.
A club statement read: "Rafa Benitez and his staff leave RC Celta after eight months of absolute dedication and total commitment, but in which the team has not obtained the results expected by the club.
"The club would like to express to Rafa Benitez and his assistants its most sincere gratitude for the honesty and professionalism they have shown since their arrival and the tireless work they have done.
"RC Celta would also like to wish them the best of luck and success in the future."
Benitez, who led Liverpool to the Champions League title in 2005, also counts Napoli, Inter Milan and Newcastle United among his former clubs.
