Pique Casts Doubt On Barca Title Chances After Sevilla Stalemate
Gerard Pique fears Barcelona have handed the initiative to Real Madrid in the race for the La Liga title following a 0-0 draw with Sevilla on Friday.
The Blaugrana’s failure to claim all three points means Real Madrid can join them at the top of the table with victory over Real Sociedad at the Anoeta on Sunday.
As Real Madrid hold a better head-to-head advantage between the two sides, Zinedine Zidane’s men can claim the title if they do not drop points between now and the end of the season.
Barcelona dominated possession for large spells at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium but could not find a way past Tomas Vaclik in the Sevilla goal.
Speaking after the game, Pique cast doubt on Barcelona’s title credentials as he feels Real Madrid, who have won their first two games after the coronavirus-enforced break, might not drop points until the end of the season.
He said afterwards: "It's going to be difficult to win this league. We're going to do everything we can but very few points will be lost.
"From what I've seen in recent weeks, it's going to be very difficult for Real Madrid to lose points."
Asked if it felt as though two points had got away in Seville, Pique said: "Yes, because we were in control and had more chances. They looked a bit tired. I think we were good with the ball but there was little space. We couldn't get the goal."
Barcelona are back in action on Tuesday against Athletic Bilbao.
