Patrick Vieira Coy On Arsenal Interest
Former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira has played down the possibility of taking over as the Gunners’ manager following the dismissal of Unai Emery on Friday.
Emery was sacked less than 24 hours after Arsenal’s shocking 2-1 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League on Thursday.
The North Londoners have not won a Premier League game since their 1-0 win against Bournemouth in October.
Vieira’s former team-mate Freddie Ljungberg has been appointed to replace the Spanish tactician as a caretaker.
A number of coaches are being considered with the likes of Nuno Espirito Santo, Massimiliano Allegri and Mauricio Pochettino linked to the job.
The Frenchman was coy when asked about the talks of him going back to his former club as coach.
"There are things I don't control, people who say a lot of stuff, which is true or not true," he told reporters after Nice's 3-1 Ligue 1 win over Angers on Saturday.
"I didn't say anything, I didn't say anything about that. I'm like you, I read, I look, I hear things, and that's it."
The 43-year-old labelled the Arsenal job as complicated amid heavy links to the vacant position at the Emirates Stadium and offers sympathies to Emery.
He added: "It's a very complicated job, I realise that, I support Emery, it's always sad to see a coach losing his job.”
"Today it's him, tomorrow it might be me, but as soon as you decide to start in this job, you have to expect to be fired at some point."
