Newcastle Defender Sven Botman Ruled Out For Nine Months With ACL Injury
Newcastle United have announced that centre back Sven Botman is facing nine months out after suffering a knee injury.
Botman suffered an ACL injury in Newcastle's 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup last weekend when he limped off after 83 minutes.
The news comes as a big blow to Newcastle United who have struggled to replicate the highs of last season when they reached the Carabao Cup final and qualified for the Champions League.
Botman has made 22 appearances across all competitions for Newcastle this sesson.
The 24-year-old joined from Lille in the summer of 2022.
Botman suffered a similar injury earlier in the season but opted against surgery.
A club statement read: “Newcastle United defender Sven Botman will undergo surgery next week after suffering a knee injury against Manchester City.
“Following further assessment, a scan has confirmed that he sustained an injury to his ACL during Saturday's match and he is expected to return to action within six to nine months.
“The Dutch centre-back initially sustained a knee injury in September 2023 and elected for a non-surgical rehabilitation plan - a decision which saw him return to action in December.
“Everyone at Newcastle United wishes Sven a full and speedy recovery.”
Botman will also miss the upcoming European Championships for the Netherlands.
