Messi, Mbappe And Haaland To Battle For 2023 FIFA Men's Player Of The Year Award
Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe have been whittled down from a shortlist of 12 to compete for the 2023 FIFA Men's Player of the year award.
The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on January 15.
Messi emerged winner of the 2022 prize after leading Argentina to FIFA World Cup glory in Qatar.
But the 2023 award will only take into account performances from December 19, 2022 to August 20, 2023.
Within that timeframe Haaland helped Manchester City to an unprecedented treble of FA Cup, Champions League and Premier League triumphs this year.
He also added the UEFA Super Cup to his list of laurels at the Etihad Stadium in August.
The 23-year-old Norwegian claimed the Premier League golden boot with 36 goals in 35 games and was crowned both the PFA player of the year and young player of the year.
Messi helped Paris Saint Germain win the French Ligue 1 title before switching to Inter Miami in the Major League Soccer.
Like Messi, Mbappe was also instrumental in PSG's Ligue 1 triumph and finished as top scorer in France.
