Liverpool Rocked By Jota Injury Blow
Liverpool’s injury woes have deepened after manager Jurgen Klopp revealed that summer signing Diogo Jota will be missing in action for up to two months with a knee injury.
The 24-year-old Portugal international suffered the injury in Liverpool’s final UEFA Champions League group stage game against Danish side Midtjylland last Wednesday.
Jota did not feature in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday, with Klopp revealing the full extent of the former FC Porto man’s injury.
"It's worse than we first thought but better than what we (later) thought. The potential surgeons had a look at it and no surgery is needed, but he will be out for a while," Klopp told Sky Sports.
"We don't know exactly, but we think one and a half, two months.
"In the end it was strange, but we were happy when we heard the final diagnosis."
Liverpool forked out £40m to acquire Jota’s services from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer transfer window and he has hit the ground running in devastating fashion, scoring nine goals in 17 appearances across all competitions.
Jota’s goal tally includes a hattrick against Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League and only Mohamed Salah (13) has more goals for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season.
Jota joins the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Thiago Alcantara and James Milner in being sidelined for Liverpool.
