Liverpool Lose Skipper Henderson For Three Weeks
Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson will be out of action for around three weeks after picking up a hamstring injury against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
The reigning European champions lost the first leg of the last 16 clash 1-0 and that defeat was compounded by Henderson pulling up in the dying embers of the game.
Henderson has been pivotal for Liverpool this season, making 34 appearances in all competitions and looks set to become the first Reds captain to lift the league title in three decades.
The timescale earmarked for Henderson’s return means the former Sunderland midfielder will miss Premier League games against West Ham United, Watford and Bournemouth, as well as the FA Cup fifth round clash against Chelsea.
The 29-year-olc could return for the second leg of the Atletico Madrid tie on March 11 or the Merseyside derby against Everton five days later.
Speaking before Liverpool’s game against the Hammers on Monday, Klopp was glad his captain’s injury is not as serious as first feared.
"[Henderson] could have been worse. It was a hamstring [issue] and there have been a lot of different hamstring injuries around in the Premier League, Harry Kane for example," Klopp said.
"It's not that bad but he will be out for around three weeks or so. It is not cool but the way we see it, we were still lucky.
"I could [make changes for West Ham] because apart from Hendo, all the other boys are fit.
"But Tuesday to Monday there is absolutely no need. That's enough time [to recover], it's longer than we usually have. We will see, but not because of the Atletico game."
