‘It’s Incompetence At Best’- Lampard Fumes At Disallowed Penalty Against Rodri

Everton manager Frank Lampard was livid with VAR officials after a hand ball against Rodri was disallowed for a penalty in a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.

‘It’s Incompetence At Best’- Lampard Fumes At Disallowed Penalty Against Rodri

Defeat to the champions left the Toffees just one point and one place above the Premier League relegation zone.

Phil Foden’s fortuitous effort after some slack defending by Michael Keane in the 82nd minute saw Pep Guardiola’s side take away all three points.

Moments after Man City had taken the lead, the ball struck Rodri on the arm in the penalty box but play was allowed to continue following a lengthy VAR review, much to the disdain of Lampard, who has now lost three of his four top flight games in charge of Everton.

‘We’ve lost a point by a professional who can’t do his job right,’ Lampard said. ‘It’s incompetence at best. At worst, who knows? ‘That’s Chris Kavanagh. It’s completely on Chris. The referee [Paul Tierney] on the day knows it was a penalty. [But] he couldn’t see it.

‘The decision is incredible, incredible that loses us the opportunity to get what we deserved. It wouldn’t have needed more than five seconds to know it was a penalty. He should have told the referee to give it or to look at it.

‘They have not given that as a penalty when it strikes him on the arm, in an unnatural position. I have a three-year-old daughter at home who could tell you that was a penalty.’
