The 41-year-old has only recently returned from a serious knee injury that kept him on the sidelines for nine months for AC Milan.

Ibrahimovic has only played 68 minutes in three matches for AC Milan since his return from injury but Sweden manager Janne Andersson deems him good enough to contribute in upcoming matches against Belgium and Azerbaijan.

Ibrahimovic's last appearance for Sweden came against Poland in March last year.

He initially retired from international football after the 2016 European Championships in France but returned to the international fold in 2021, only to get injured and miss the delayed EURO 2020.

Sweden manager Andersson said on Ibrahimovic’s return: “Zlatan has made three slightly longer appearances now in (AC) Milan and feels alert and in decent shape even though he has been away for a while.

“So from that perspective, I think he can add (to the team). Above all on the field, but also on the side of the field.”

"Zlatan and I have kept in touch throughout this period during his injury," the Sweden coach noted.

"Now he feels good to contribute on the field. His personality and his experience can also contribute a lot to the squad. He is unique."

Ibrahimovic is Sweden's all-time top scorer with 62 goals in 121 appearances.
