Ilkay Gundogan says he still has a lot to prove at Barcelona after sealing his free transfer from Manchester City.

Gundogan Eager To Prove His Worth As Barcelona Journey Begins

Gundogan held his first press conference with the Spanish champions on Monday after signing a two-year contract at the start of the month.

The 32-year-old is now one of the elder statesmen in Xavi Hernandez’s young squad.

Gundogan spent seven seasons at Manchester City and his final act at the English champions was lifting the UEFA Champions League as captain last month.

That triumph at the Ataturk Stadium in Turkey added to five Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four League Cups won under former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.

Despite enjoying enormous success in England, Gundogan is keen to win more trophies at his new club.

"Even though I'm older, I'm prepared for the challenge and I still have a lot to prove," said Gundogan at his unveiling.

"The style is very similar to what I played at City."

"Guardiola and Xavi are very similar. I felt a connection with Xavi from the first moment we talked. When I spoke to him I knew they [Barcelona] were on the right track.

"It's an incredible team and an opportunity to be able to play in a different league and in a different country.

"We will try to fight for the Champions League title. It is a responsibility to wear this shirt and I will try to give my best to win as many titles as possible."
