Guardiola Reveals Aguero Is Close To Joining Barcelona
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that Sergio Aguero is close to joining Barcelona at the end of the season.
Aguero’s contract in the blue half of Manchester expires this summer and he has already announced that he will be leaving as a free agent, bringing a decade-long association with the club to a close.
The 32-year-old Argentina international marked his final appearance at the Etihad Stadium with a brace as Manchester City brushed aside Everton 5-0 on Sunday, when they received the Premier League trophy.
As City bid farewell to a club legend, who has struck a record 260 goals in 389 games, Guardiola let the cat out of the bag that Aguero will be joining one of his former clubs in Spain.
"Maybe I reveal a secret," Guardiola told BBC. "Maybe he is close to agreeing a deal for the club of my heart - for Barcelona.
"He is going to be playing alongside the best player of all time, Messi.
"I'm pretty sure he is going to enjoy. And maybe Barcelona are stronger and stronger with him on the pitch."
Since joining Man City from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011, Aguero has won five Premier League titles, six league Cups and one FA Cup, and he has the chance to sign off with the UEFA Champions League trophy on Saturday when the Citizens meet Chelsea in the final.
Aguero’s last-minute winner against Queens Park Rangers in his debut season that secured a first Premier League title in 44 years is forever etched in the memories of many City fans and the club have announced that he will be immortalised in bronze outside the Etihad Stadium alongside fellow club legends Vincent Kompany and David Silva.
