Forsberg Bids Emotional Farewell To RB Leipzig Ahead Of New York Red Bulls Move
Emil Forsberg has bid an emotional farewell to RB Leipzig after playing his last game at the Red Bull Arena.
Forsberg will join Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls on a three-year contract when the January transfer window opens.
The 32-year-old marked his final home appearance with a goal and had a hand in another as Leipzig beat Hoffenheim 3-1 in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
Forsberg joined Leipzig in January 2015 when they were in the second tier and helped them gain promotion to the top flight in 2016.
Leipzig have since established themselves among the best teams in the Bundesliga and in Europe, reaching the Champions League semi-finals in the 2019/2020 season and winning two DFB-Pokals.
Forsberg has made 324 appearances in total for Leipzig, scoring 71 goals.
His final appearance for Leipzig will come at Werder Bremen on Tuesday.
"It's very difficult to stand up here and say goodbye," Forsberg said when addressing the Leipzig fans.
"It's been a wonderful nine years. Everything I ever wanted to happen did."
"I can hardly believe it. One dreams about experiencing moments like this. It feels incredible. I love this club, the city, and the fans. I've experienced everything."
Long-time teammate Yussuf Poulsen added: "We played together for nine years and were together more or less every day."
"You become very good friends. He's a great guy and there's nobody who says anything bad about him. We got a great reaction from the crowd today."
Forsberg has 86 caps and 21 goals for the Sweden national team.
