Former Real Madrid Midfielder Compares Vinicius Junior To Cristiano Ronaldo
Former Real Madrid midfielder Victor Sanchez has drawn comparisons between Vinicius Junior and Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo left Real Madrid for Serie A giant Juventus in July 2018 after a nine-year spell at Santiago Bernabeu.
Vinicius on the other hand officially joined the Madrid-based team in July 2018, for a fee of €46 million, making him the most expensive player under the age of 19 at the time.
The 19-year-old was one of Real Madrid’s shining lights in his first season in Spain and has become one of the most important players under Zinedine Zidane in recent weeks.
A week after Vinicius’ heroics in Real Madrid’s 2-0 win against bitter rivals Barcelona in La Liga, Sanchez believes the Brazilian’s playing style is similar to that of Ronaldo.
“Vinicius’ statistics in his first two seasons show that he’s scored eight goals. Cristiano Ronaldo scored 11 in his first two seasons,” the 44-year-old told Marca.
“This gives us an idea of the path he has in front of him because Vinicius is at a very similar level to Cristiano at his age with a similar style of play.”
“A winger and with the ability to dribble that stands out before his goalscoring.”
“The key is [in the mind] and ambition that he has to overcome obstacles that will get in his way. He [Ronaldo] overcame adversities before becoming one of the best in history.”
