Former Man Utd Defender John O'Shea Named Interim Republic Of Ireland Manager
Former Manchester United defender John O'Shea has been named as interim manager of the Republic of Ireland national team.
O'Shea will take charge of the Republic's upcoming international friendlies against Belgium and Switzerland next month.
Ireland are still searching for a permanent manager following Stephen Kenny's departure in November last year.
O'Shea was one of Kenny's assistants.
O'Shea played 118 times for the Republic of Ireland national team.
He won five Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League with Manchester United.
The 42-year-old will be assisted by Crystal Palace assistant coach Paddy McCarthy.
"I've always had immense pride representing my country, whether that be during my playing career or as part of the coaching staff," said O'Shea.
"It's great Paddy has agreed to come on board for the two matches and work will begin straight away to prepare for two top-quality fixtures against great opposition in front of our fantastic home support.
"I've got great belief in this group of players."
