Eriksen sat out Brentford's 2-1 defeat at Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday.

The 30-year-old had been named in the Denmark squad for this month's friendly games against Netherlands and Serbia.

It was Eriksen's first invitation to the national team since their opening game at EURO 2020 when he suffered a cardiac arrest and had his heart fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator device which prevented him from playing for Inter Milan and had his contract with the Italian champions mutually terminated as a result.

After eight months out, Eriksen signed a short-term deal with Brentford in the January transfer window and made his comeback for the Bees last month.

Eriksen has since made three appearances for Thomas Frank's side and has provided one assist so far.

Denmark are still hoping Eriksen makes a quick recovery and joins the squad.

A statement from the Danish FA read: "We have been in ongoing dialogue with Christian and Brentford about the situation. We expect to see Christian as soon as possible during the week. We look forward to having him and expect to have him against the Netherlands and Serbia."

Eriksen, who has 109 caps and 36 goals for Denmark, played at the 2010 and 2018 FIFA World Cups.
