The biggest scoreline of the day came at Stamford Bridge when Brentford came from a goal down to beat European champions Chelsea.

After a goalless first half, the second period came to life when Antonio Rudiger gave the hosts the lead with a speculative long range effort in the 48th minute but Vitaly Janelt replied almost after before Christian Eriksen gave the visitors the lead. Janelt added a second and substitute Yoan Wissa completed the rout.

Champions Man City ensured they head into next weekend's top-of-the-table clash with Liverpool with their one point lead intact after two first half goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan gave them a 2-0 win at Burnley.

Leeds United and Southampton drew 1-1 at Elland Road while Brighton and Hove Albion and Norwich City played out a goalless draw at the American Express Stadium.

At the Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton Wanderers inflicted a third straight defeat on Aston Villa with a 2-1 win. Jonny scored for the hosts and Ashley Young scored an own goal while Ollie Watkins halved the deficit with a penalty.

In the early kick-off at Anfield, Liverpool temporarily climbed to the summit with a 2-0 win over Watford. Diogo Jota's 20th goal of the season and a Fabinho penalty did the damage for Jurgen Klopp's men.
