Defiant Mourinho ‘Proud’ Of Spurs Despite Defeat Against Chelsea
Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has insisted he is proud of his players despite a 2-1 defeat against London rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The Lilywhites could have usurped Chelsea into fourth place with a win, but a stellar performance from the Blues sent the visitors back home with their tails between their legs.
Chelsea got a deserved lead on the 15th minute mark through Olivier Giroud, who was making a return to the starting lineup.
The West Londoners doubled their advantage right after the break through Marcos Alonso, before Spurs pulled one back later on when Erik Lamela's effort was deflected in by Antonio Rudiger.
Speaking to BBC MOTD after the game the Portuguese coach revealed Spurs did everything to get back into the game, and insists the presence of the injured Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son were hugely missed.
"I'm very proud of the players, they gave absolutely everything,” the former Manchester United head coach said.
“We don't have a striker. Our attacking players are not strikers and are in huge levels of fatigue, so very, very difficult for us.”
“No tactical problems, [we were] completely in control of the space, punished by a couple of individual mistakes.”
"In the last part of the game when Chelsea was scared of the 2-1 we didn't have that presence, that power, we didn't have that to do more than what we did.”
Next up for Tottenham is a home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.
