Cameroon Announce Exit Of Rigobert Song As National Team Manager

Song's contract expired on Wednesday, and the Cameroon Football Federation(FECAFOOT) headed by Samuel Eto'o have decided not to give him a new deal.

The 47-year-old was appointed manager in February 2022 and led Cameroon to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where they exited in the group stages despite beating Brazil.

Song was once again in charge of Cameroon at the recent AFCON but they suffered a round of 16 exit at the hands of Nigeria.

“Today the Executive Committee of the Cameroon Football Federation notified the members of the Indomitable Lions staff of the end of their contract to manage Cameroon's Senior Men's National Team,” Fecafoot said in a statement.

“In the next few days, the details of the recruitment process for a new Indomitable Lions coaching staff will be announced.”

Eto'o added: “He has brought a lot to this team. We have not achieved our objectives, and our executive committee and I do not see ourselves renewing the contract.”

“I had the opportunity to discuss it with him. I gave our positions and now we have to think about the future while wishing him every success in his future career.”

As a player, Song won 137 caps for Cameroon and won the Africa Cup of Nations twice.
