BREAKING NEWS: Luis Suarez Out For Four Months After Knee Surgery
Spanish champions Barcelona have been dealt a huge injury blow with the news that star striker Luis Suarez will miss four months of action after undergoing knee surgery.
The 32-year-old Uruguayan could therefore miss the rest of the season following the operation on the external meniscus of his right knee.
Suarez has been carrying the injury for some time as a similar problem kept him out of the Copa del Rey final against Valencia last season as well as the first few weeks of the 2019/2020 season.
A statement on Barcelona's website today read: "The first team player, Luis Suárez, has been operated on this Sunday by Dr. Ramon Cugat, who used keyhole surgery to resolve an injury to the external meniscus of the right knee by performing a suture.
"The Uruguayan striker will be out for approximately four months."
The former Liverpool striker has made 23 appearances in all competitions for the Blaugrana this season, scoring 14 goals.
Suarez has also contributed the most assists in the Spanish top flight this season with seven.
The news will likely force Barcelona into the transfer market to find a replacement at least for the short term.
As well as league games, Suarez will miss the UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash with Napoli next month.
Suarez will also be missing in action when Uruguay begin their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Ecuador at the end of March.
