Brazil Lose Gabriel Jesus And Alex Telles For Rest Of World Cup
Brazil have been dealt a fresh double injury blow after Gabriel Jesus and Alex Telles were ruled out of the rest of the FIFA World Cup with knee injuries.
The pair picked up the injuries in the 1-0 defeat to Cameroon on Friday, with Jesus lasting for 64 minutes and Telles featuring for 54 minutes.
The news is the latest in a long line of injuries to hit the Brazil camp during the tournament.
Star player Neymar has missed the last two matches with an ankle injury, while Danilo and Alex Sandro have also spent time in the treatment room.
"As announced by the CBF after the game against Cameroon, players Alex Telles and Gabriel Jesus underwent tests this Saturday morning," a statement from the Brazil FA read.
"Accompanied by the doctor of the Brazilian team, Rodrigo Lasmar, they performed an MRI on the right knee that confirmed the injuries and the impossibility of recovery in time to participate in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
"The coordinator of the Brazilian national team, Juninho Paulista, is in contact with the sports directors of Arsenal and Sevilla to define whether Alex Telles and Gabriel Jesus remain with the squad in Doha for continuity of treatment or if they return to their clubs."
Brazil will meet South Korea in the round of 16 on Monday.
Jesus' injury will also be of concern to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, with the Gunners set to return to Premier League action later this month.
