Braithwaite Determined To Be One Of La Liga’s Top Goalscorers
Denmark forward Martin Braithwaite is determined to hit the ground running at Camp Nou once the coronavirus pandemic is over.
The 28-year-old signed for Barcelona from Leganes in February after the Spanish champions were granted an emergency exception to sign him outside of a transfer window because Ousmane Dembele was ruled out for six months after surgery to treat a ruptured hamstring.
Braithwaite has been fairly prolific in his previous clubs, having scored 74 league goals since he became a professional.
The former Middlesbrough and Toulouse man has insisted he intends to seize his big opportunity with both feet and become a success in Catalonia, as he believes playing with the likes of Lionel Messi gives strikers more chances to find the net.
“I have to be a starter in the team and a goalscorer,” Braithwaite told DR.
“When you play for Barcelona, you get so many chances, so there is no doubt that I see myself scoring a lot of goals and being one of the top goalscorers in the team and in the league. That's what I'm here for.
“I have to work hard and believe in myself. I have seen so far in my career that when you put a lot of work into it, you are always rewarded for it.
“Now I'm working harder than ever, so I'm going to get a huge reward.
“Now there is a break, and I see that as an advantage. I know there is no one who trains and works the way I do. When I come back, I will be physically and mentally prepared.
“It has not even started yet, and I have not yet proved what I can do. I feel I did well at first, but I also know that I can do even better.”
