Barcelona Lose Cancelo For Unspecified Period With Knee Injury
Barcelona have announced that defender Joao Cancelo will be out for an unspecified period after suffering a knee injury.
Cancelo lasted just 11 minutes in Barcelona's 2-1 away win over Las Palmas in La Liga on Thursday before being taken off injured.
The 29-year-old joined Barcelona from Manchester City on loan at the start of the season.
Cancelo has made 22 appearances for Barcelona so far, scoring three goals and providing two assists.
“Tests carried out on Friday show that first-team player Joao Cancelo has a strained medial collateral ligament in his left knee,” read a Barcelona statement.
“He is unavailable for selection and his recovery will dictate his return.”
Barcelona have immediate matches against Barbastro in the Copa del Rey, Osasuna in the Spanish Super Cup and Real Betis in La Liga which Cancelo could miss.
