Ballack Recommends Van Gaal As Next Germany Manager
Former Germany captain Michael Ballack has recommended Louis Van Gaal as the next manager of the national team.
Germany are currently without a substantive manager after Hansi Flick was sacked following a 4-1 home defeat to Japan during the international break.
Rudi Voller subsequently led the side on an interim basis as Germany beat France 2-1 in an international friendly last week.
With the Die Mannschaft set to host the next edition of the European Championships next summer, time is running out for a replacement to be named.
No foreigner has ever coached the German national team, but former Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Ballack believes the Dutchman will be the right man for the job.
"Clear and simple football with the drive of getting into the game through duels," Ballack notes in a forthcoming interview with Germany's Kicker Magazine.
"The fans can identify with it. [The coaching search] should be oriented towards the best. I would take an experienced man and Louis van Gaal is an exceptional coach."
"Van Gaal brings almost everything needed," Ballack continues.
"He's certainly not an easy guy, but that's not a bad thing. I think the team needs a fresh impetus. He's a person who commands respect, brings with him extensive experience, and knows the full repertoire of coaching."
Van Gaal is currently unattached after leaving his role as manager of the Netherlands national team after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
