Vinicius Jnr Set For Two-Month Injury Layoff

Real Madrid's Brazilian wonderkid, Vinicius Junior, could be out of action for two months after tearing ligaments in his right ankle during Tuesday's 4-1 loss to Ajax Amsterdam in the UEFA Champions League at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Vinicius suffered the injury in the first half of the game and left the pitch in tears to be replaced by Marco Asensio, who went on to score Madrid's consolation goal.

The 18-year-old Brazilian has been arguably Real Madrid's brightest spark in an otherwise turbulent season that has seen them lose ground in the race for the La Liga title, knocked out of the Copa del Rey and lose their recent monopoly of the UEFA Champions League.

Vinicius recently received his first call-up to the Brazilian national team for their upcoming friendly games in March, but unfortunately, this ankle injury will certainly curtail his involvement with the Selecao.

"After the tests made today to our player Vinicius Jr by the Medical Services of Real Madrid, he has been diagnosed with a torn ligament of the tibiofibular joint of the right leg. Evolution pending," a Real Madrid statement read.

Vinicius Junior joined Real Madrid from Brazilian side Flamengo in the summer, and he has gone on to make 28 appearances in all competitions scoring four goals.
