Salah Scores As Liverpool Win At Huddersfield
By Harry Morgan
Liverpool maintained their flying start to the 2018/19 Premier League season with a 1-0 win at Huddersfield on Saturday.
Mohamed Salah fetched the only goal of the game with his fourth strike this season to shrug off his recent poor form and also bring Liverpool to the second spot and at par with leaders Manchester City with 23 points.
The defeat leaves David Wagner's Huddersfield at the 19th position with a paltry four points from the opening nine games of the season.
Xherdan Shaqiri played a neat ball into the path of Mohamed Salah, who made room for a shot and sent in a low drive which bounced in off the left post
Huddersfield’s Jonathan Hogg latched on to an accurate pass, in the 34th minute, before attempting to threaten the goalkeeper with a long-range shot, but his attempt rattled the left post.
Alex Pritchard thought he had snatched the equaliser for the hosts when he put the ball into the net a few seconds to the interval, but referee Michael Oliver overruled the goal for offside.
Laurent Depoitre escaped his marker in the 55th minute to connect his head to a cross, but saw Allison Becker pull an excellent save to deny him.
Mohamed Salah came close ten minutes later when he received a pass on the edge of the box to shoot inches wide of the right post.
Steve Mounie reacted superbly to latch on to a rebound in the 82nd minute but blazed the ball high over the crossbar.
Substitute Roberto Firmino made some space for himself in the 90th minute and, from mid-range, flew a wild effort which went high over the crossbar.
