Richarlison Hopes To Make Brazil
By Max Wise
Everton forward, Richarlison, hopes his impressive performances for the Toffees this season earns him a spot in Tite’s Brazil squad for the 2019 Copa America.
Richarlison has six goals in nine Premier League games for Everton this season, more than the five he scored for Watford in 38 appearances in the last campaign.
The 21-year-old came off the bench to help the Selecao to a 1-0 win over Uruguay at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium on Friday, but failed to get on the score sheet himself, having spurned a good chance late on.
"Unfortunately, I could not score the goal, but the important thing is that Brazil won," Richarlison said in a post-match interview.
"This sequence [of games] is very important. The more games I play, the better."
"At my club, I also have good form, so it is important to continue because the Copa America is next year and I want to be in it."
"I do not believe I'm a favourite [for the squad]. I want to evolve and improve as a professional."
"We are all satisfied with the performance of the team, now is to see what Tite wants to work on. There's Cameroon to come still and we need to focus."
The appearance was Richarlison’s fifth for Brazil, since his debut in September, and he has scored two goals to date.
Brazil, who will host the 46th edition of the Copa America next year, come up against Cameroon in another international friendly on Tuesday.
