Real Madrid have completed the signing of Ferland Mendy from French Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais.
The left fullback player has signed a six-year deal with the Los Blancos until 2025 for a fee of 48 million euros plus 5M in add-ons.
Mendy will be presented to the fans as the club’s player at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium on June 19.
The French full-back will now join Madrid new signings Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Eder Militao and Rodrygo Goes as part of the new project of coach Zinedine Zidane as he aims to reshape the side after a disappointing season last term.
Mendy was reported to have completed his medical during the international break at Clairefontaine as Real Madrid sent their representatives to the French national team’s camp.
Real Madrid having splashed the cash this summer are looking to regain their feet at the very top of European football.
The 24-year-old defender joined Lyon from Ligue 2 side Le Havre in 2017, and has featured 77 times for them in two seasons.
Mendy’s 44 appearances for the side this season recorded three goals and three assists as he played in all their Champions League campaign which ended at the last-16 stage.
The newly recruited Real Madrid defender earned his first three caps for the French national team in November as he played in the side’s two European cup qualifiers, starting in their 4-0 win over Andora on Tuesday.
The signing of Mendy will give competition to Brazilian defender Marcelo who has been relaxed at the left back position under many coaches at the club.
