Mourinho Rules Himself Out Of Newcastle United Job

Jose Mourinho has distanced himself from the soon-to-be vacant Newcastle United managerial position insisting he is too ambitious to manage a mid-table club.

Newcastle United announced on Monday that they will be parting company with manager Rafael Benitez when the Spaniard’s contract expires on June 30.

Mourinho has been without a club ever since Manchester United sacked him last December, taking on roles as a pundit for beIN Sports’ coverage of the UEFA Champions League.

The former Chelsea manager had been linked with Benfica, Olympique Lyon, Inter Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid but all those moves failed to materialize as the clubs opted for different candidates.

Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is reportedly on the verge of selling the club to multi-billionaire Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan, and Mourinho has been earmarked to take over at the St. James’ Park.

But in an interview with The Coaches' Voice, the former Chelsea manager gave a clear description of the kind of job he does not want to take on.

"The only thing I know is what I don't want," said Mourinho.

"What I don't want is crystal clear. I am quite pathological in the sense that I have to play to win. Then, if I win or if I don't win, that's my problem and the players and the club and the structure. But I need a project where the feeling is I play to win.

"If someone gives me a wonderful, amazing 10-year contract and says the objective of the team is to stay in the first part of the table, and if you finish seventh or eighth or ninth it's perfect, that's not for me. That's not my nature.

"It's not me. My next is to fight to win."
