Mourinho Reveals National Team Management Ambition

Jose Mourinho believes his next move in management will more likely be with a national team than a club.

The 56-year-old Portuguese was relieved of his duties as Manchester United manager last December and has been without a club ever since.

The two-time Champions League winner has been appearing as a pundit for beIN Sports’ coverage of the UEFA Champions League though he has stated his desire of returning to the dugouts when the right offer arrives.

Mourinho has been linked with various jobs ever since his disengagement with Manchester United was confirmed.

The former Chelsea manager has been linked with Benfica, Olympique Lyon, Inter Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid but all those moves failed to materialize as the clubs opted for different candidates.

Given Mourinho’s stature in the game and with most of the top managerial positions in Europe already occupied, it remains to be seen where his next destination will be.

Having won league titles in his native Portugal, England, Italy and Spain as well as winning both the Champions League and Europa League on two occasions, Mourinho has seen it all in club football and the ‘special one’ has now revealed he would like to try his luck with a national team.

“I want to compete in new competitions,” Mourinho revealed in an interview with Eleven Sports.

“I think about the World Cup and the European Championships.

“For a long time I have had the desire to try out such an adventure. Right now, I see myself more at a national team than with a new club.

“Is Portugal the right team for me? Not necessarily.”
