Mourinho: Man United 'Problems' Still Persist

Jose Mourinho has provided a scathing assessment of the issues hampering Manchester United’s progress despite his dismissal five months ago.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager was shown the exit at Old Trafford after a dismal run of results and a public falling out with record signing, Paul Pogba.

Manchester United slightly improved after Mourinho’s dismissal as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment breathed some life into the Red Devils’ campaign but once the Norwegian’s honeymoon period in the dugout was over, their season ended in disappointment.

A sixth-placed finish in the Premier League will see United miss out on next season’s Champions League, while a major overhaul of the squad is expected with the futures of key first-team players uncertain.

Mourinho, who has previously stated that finishing second with the current Manchester United squad in the 2017/2018 season, ranks as one of his greatest achievements, has stressed that his problems with Pogba was just a scratch of the surface as there are further deep-rooted issues affecting the club as a whole.

“The problems are there, you can say that the problems are the players, the organisation, the ambition, I only say that I cannot say yes when you ask if Paul was the only one responsible,' Mourinho told L'Equipe.

“I said nine or 10 months ago that after winning eight Championships, finishing second with United may have been my greatest achievement,' he added. 'Now people understand.

“I do not always do my analysis publicly on Manchester United. I do not want to talk about it and I have the feeling that I do not need to speak, that time gives explanations.

“About United I want to say only two things: One is that time has spoken. Two is that the problems are still there, people understand.”
