Mane: My Mates Convinced Me To Extend Liverpool Deal
By Joshua Walters
Sadio Mane has revealed the reason behind the extension of his Liverpool contract saying he was persuaded by his teammates.
The Senegalese forward penned a five-year contract extension in November 2018 after months of feet dragging to the deal given him by the club.
The development wadded off the interest of several European suitors like Real Madrid, and the former Southampton striker and current Liverpool ace has disclosed the impact some of his teammates made in his decision to sign the deal.
"Speculation is part of football, you just learn to live with it and not to take it too seriously.”
“All I can say is that my only concern is Liverpool. Mo, Bobby... it seemed like everyone was signing contracts and they were saying:
'Hey Sadio, when are you going to sign?'. I said to each of them: 'Don't worry bro, I will sign.'
“And what did I do? I signed... so they are pleased now!
Mane has scored 43 goals in 101 games for Liverpool since his arrival in 2016 and helped the side to the summit of the Premier League table with 60 points after twenty-three matches.
Mane's new deal, which is expected to expire in 2023, is worth around £150,000, and the striker is hoping to achieve greatness with the side.
“I'm very happy here and I think people are happy with me too. We want to write our names alongside the many great ones in the story of this club. Hopefully, it's the beginning of something special.”
