Man Utd Intensify Pellegrini
By Nigel Philips
Manchester United are reportedly chasing AS Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini, and Corriere dello Sport reports that the Old Trafford outfit is willing to double the Italian’s salary as a bait.
The Italian sports news outlet claims Jose Mourinho is willing to swoop for the utility midfielder, who has a €30m release clause at AS Roma, in January.
A meeting is said to have gone on between Pellegrini's agent, Giacomo Pocetta, and directors of the English club on Saturday, and the latter reportedly put forth a huge proposal for the player.
The Premier League giants are reportedly, prepared to pay the €30m release clause in the player’s contract, and also double his current salary of €1m per year until June 2022.
AS Roma, however, are feet dragging and do not want to lose their promising midfielder, especially after selling Radja Nainggolan to Inter Milan and Kevin Strootman to Olympique Marseille in the summer transfer window.
The club, as a result, are working to block the move and cement the player’s stay by renegotiating the latter’s contract with a deal that would either increase the release clause or the salary.
