Lukaku Tight-Lipped On Manchester United Future
By Joshua Walters
Romelu Lukaku says he has already made a decision on his Manchester United future but will keep it to himself for the time being.
The former Everton player has been linked with a move away from the Red Devils with Inter Milan as the prime destination.
Antonio Conte, who has taken charge as the new Inter Milan manager following the dismissal of Luciano Spalletti, has been a fan of the bulky striker as he tried to sign Lukaku during his time as Chelsea manager, but the Belgian joined Manchester United instead.
Conte is aiming to build a deadly attacking force capable of breaking Juventus’ monopoly of the Serie A title, and he sees Lukaku as a credible candidate to spearhead that attack.
Lukaku has endured limited playing time since the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who favoured Marcus Rashford as his leading frontman after taking over from Jose Mourinho last December.
With his move to Inter Milan gaining grounds, Lukaku has disclosed he has already made a decision on where to play next season, but will keep it himself for now as he enjoys the holidays with his family after scoring twice in Belgium’s 3-0 win over Scotland in the Euro 2020 qualifiers on Tuesday.
“I have a contract with Man United,” Lukaku, who is Belgium’s all-time leading goalscorer, said after the game.
"I'll speak with my club and my agent Federico Pastorello to make the best decision.
"I am going to enjoy my holidays with my family now. I know what I'll do, but won't say it.
"We'll see. If I expect a busy summer? Yes."
The left-footed striker’s current contract is expected to expire in 2022 with an option for a year’s renewal.
In the 2018/19 season, Lukaku recorded 12 goals in thirty-two Premier League games and two goals in nine Champions League appearances as Manchester United finished sixth on the league log.
