Klopp Cools Down Rants At Shaqiri

Jurgen Klopp vented his frustrations on Xherdan Shaqiri after Liverpool lost 2-1 to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup at Anfield on Wednesday, and the manager explains it was over a free kick.

Emerson and Eden Hazard struck as Maurizio Sarri’s men made less Daniel Sturridge’s opener to kick out the Reds from the knockout competition.

Klopp was captured on camera angrily uttering words to summer acquisition Shagiri, after the game, and the manager explained at the post-match his public rebuking of the Swiss was down to the midfielder’s allowing Jordan Henderson to take a late minute free-kick when they were trailing and he could have taken it himself.

“I spoke about a free-kick, the last one,” said Klopp. “We wanted to have Mohamed Salah a bit wider, so we had passed the ball to Mo, the whole bunch of players was in one direction – where we shot the ball, actually."

“But if we can send Mo into a one-on-one situation in the last situation of the game, it would have been not too bad. What I said was about the free-kick, nothing else.”
