Jorginho: I Am Not Sarri

Jorginho: I Am Not Sarri

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has debunked rumours that he is manager Maurizio Sarri's most trusted player at the club.

The midfielder, who joined Chelsea from Napoli after an impressive run at the Italian club with Sarri, has revealed that he has a 'normal relationship' with the manager like it is with most of the players in the club.

Jorginho was one of Sarri's most dependable players when he led Napoli between 2015 and 2018.

He became Sarri's first signing at Chelsea when the former left for the English club before the start of the ongoing season.

Sarri’s explanation to Jorginho’s signing was that the player was going to be the fulcrum of his playing philosophy dubbed, 'Sarriball'.

Jorginho has since become a consistent figure in the Chelsea side and has remained so even in the face of bad days.

This has led people to speculate that the 27-year-old Brazilian-born Italian midfielder meant, perhaps, more than a player to Sarri.

But Jorginho has dispelled the claims, saying he also get the stick from the manager, like everyone does, whenever things go wrong.

“I’m not special. I have a completely normal relationship with Sarri.

“I don’t go out for dinner with him. I don’t go round to his house. I am just a player who can help him do the things he wants his team to do.

“He’s shouted at me when I’ve got things wrong, just as he has everyone else. I certainly don’t consider myself to be his golden boy.”

Jorginho, who was booed by some Chelsea fans after missing a spot-kick when the Blues lost the Carabao Cup finals to Manchester City on penalties, scored his second Premier League goal for his side in the 2-1 win at Fulham in the West London Derby.

Jorginho has played twenty-seven Premier League matches and scored a paltry two goals aside from his five-game scoreless run in the Europa League.

Jorginho joined Chelsea for a fee of £50m with £7m in potential add-ons, having signed a five-year contract after a four-year spell at Naples.
