Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not be making a fairytale return to AC Milan, according to the Rossoneri’s sporting director, Leonardo.
Ibrahimovic spent two seasons at AC Milan after initially joining on loan from Barcelona before making the move permanent a season later.
The former Ajax Amsterdam frontman, made 61 Serie A appearances and scored 42 goals for the San Siro outfit between 2010 and 2012 before departing for Paris Saint Germain.
Milan have not won the Serie A title since Ibrahimovic helped them to it in the 2010/11 season, and ahead of the January transfer window, speculations on a move back to the San Siro is being peddled around.
However, speaking after Milan’s goalless draw with Torino on Sunday, Leonardo confirmed Ibrahimovic will be staying in America with LA Galaxy.
"Ibrahimovic won't be returning to Milan," Leonardo told Sky Sport Italia. "He gave his word to LA Galaxy that he would renew his contract."
"We thought about bringing him back and he thought about it too, but he is keeping his word and will stay in MLS."
"He always said from the start that if Galaxy satisfied his conditions, then he'd stay. They are doing that and he will stay there."
"It would have been a marvelous story and a strong signal of intent [from Milan], but it won't be possible."
