Herrera To Reject PSG For Man United Stay
By Nigel Phillip
Ander Herrera is willing to commit his long-term future to Manchester United, despite the strong approach from French giants, Paris Saint-Germain.
The unassuming Herrera has been Manchester United’s unsung hero as Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford have led the headlines in the Red Devils’ resurgence in the Premier League under caretaker manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Spaniard has become better since Solskjaer took over the technical bench from Jose Mourinho though he was not one of the most criticised players before the coming of the Norwegian.
Herrera’s dexterity has been evident anytime he is on the pitch, and his passion and commitment to the cause of the team have made him one of the fans favourites of the club.
Reports in Spain on Friday says that PSG are close to securing the services of the former Athletic Bilbao midfielder with a four-year deal estimated to worth £150k a week.
PSG's interest comes from the imminent departure of Adrien Rabiot, on a free at the end of the season, and their zeal to cut spending on the transfer market following the astronomical purchases of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
However, according to reports in England, the Spanish midfielder has no plans of accepting the offer though yet to sign a contract extension with the Old Trafford club.
Claims are that the 29-year-old box-to-box midfielder wants to stay at Manchester United and will soon extend his deal with the Old Trafford club.
Manchester United followed Herrera in the summer of 2013 when David Moyes replaced Sir Alex Ferguson but did not sign the player until Louis van Gaal took over a year later.
The diminutive player has had a rough run at the club, over the years, as he has been in and out of the first team.
But there have also been times that Herrera seemed almost irreplaceable for Manchester United like it has been for the player since the middle of this season.
With Paul Pogba revealing his desire to join Real Madrid in an interview this week, Manchester United cannot afford to let go of Herrera, who is one of the experienced midfielders in the side.
Though not interested to leave Old Trafford, PSG’s £150k a week for four years’ deal has given the Spaniard some strong negotiating powers since he has an option should Manchester United refuse to grant his demands
