Diego Costa To Undergo Foot Surgery In Brazil

Diego Costa’s lack of scoring form has been compounded with the news that he is to undergo a foot surgery that is likely to rule him out for about two months.

The 30-year-old Brazilian born Spanish attacker has failed to recapture the goal-poaching traits that made him a menace for opposition defenders during his time with Chelsea in England.

The Atletico Madrid striker has scored just four times in 26 La Liga appearances since returning to Atletico Madrid from Chelsea in January 2018, and that includes his single strike in 11 games this season.

Atletico confirmed on Monday that Costa will return to his native country to undergo foot surgery.

"Diego Costa is to be operated on in Brazil this week due to ongoing pain in his left foot," read the club's statement.

"After considering all the possible options, the decision has been made to undertake the operation in Brazil, supervised by Atletico Madrid's medical services."

"Our striker, who had an operation on the fifth metatarsal of his left foot 12 years ago, has been enduring ongoing pain due to foot trauma suffered three weeks ago."
