Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is close to signing a new deal with the Red Devils as he is said to have agreed to a contract extension presented to him by the club.

The Spanish international has been in talks with the club for the past weeks though both sides are yet to arrive at a compromise.

De Gea, a long-serving shot-stopper at the club has seen a stunning performance this season leaving the club with no choice than to offer him a new deal until 2022.

Manchester United triggered De Gea’s contract with a 12-month renewal deal in November as he nears free agent status in less than a year-and-a-half time.

The Spanish national team goalkeeper joined Manchester United in 2011 from Atletico Madrid for a fee approximately £18.9 million making a British record fee for a goalkeeper as at that time.

David de Gea signed a new four-year deal in the 2015/16 season with an option to extend it for a further year which is closed to expire prompting the club to negotiate for a contract extension.

Reports in the domain believe that the goalkeeper has been asking for more despite being offered £300,000 a week by the club before he can sign the new dotted lines.

A report from the Dailymail says that the 28-year-old keeper will stay at the club only if his opting fresh deal is considered.

De Gea, who nearly joined Spanish giants Real Madrid two seasons ago, has dropped that desire, and reports say he has taken the decision to remain at Manchester United despite speculations that he could also join French side Paris Saint-Germain

Jorge Mendes, De Gea’s agent, is said to be bargaining for £400,000 weekly wage for the goalkeeper, and that, if agreed on, would make the Spaniard the top earner amongst his peers.
