Court Bans Hugo Lloris From Driving

A Westminster magistrate court, presided over by Amanda Barron, has fined Hugo Lloris £50,000 and banned him from driving for twenty months for drink-driving.
The ruling comes after the Tottenham Hotspurs goalkeeper, who led France to win the 2018 World Cup in Russia, had pleaded guilty to drink-driving.
Lloris also confessed he was twice the drink-drive limit when he was stopped by Police during a routine check on August 24, 2018.
Amanda Barron said the sentence related to the gravity of the Lloris' offence and his financial status, though the court did not discuss details of his salary.
“This is a very serious offence, as you know,” said the magistrate. “Not only were you putting your own life at risk, but also that of your passenger. It was pure luck that you did not cause damage to other vehicles or pedestrians in the central London area.”
The Spurs number-one shots-stopper was arrested while driving his 2018-plate, Porsche Panamera along Gloucester Place, Marylebone.
Prosecutor Henry Fitch told the court Police discovered vomit in the Porsche, and that Lloris was assisted before he could get out of the car.
Henry Fitch said police were in an unmarked car when they spotted Lloris’ vehicle driving at 15mph in a 30mph zone.
The prosecutor continued that Lloris also veered the car “towards parked vehicles” getting back into his lane.
Defence counsel, David Sonn told the court the goalkeeper went dining in a restaurant and was showered with drinks.
The 31-year-old wore a dark suit over a gray shirt and was accompanied by two persons as he made his way from his car into the courtroom under the watchful eyes of journalists.
Lloris joined Spurs from Lyon in 2012, and has so far made 209 Premier League appearances and kept 75 clean sheets.
He picked up a knee injury in Spurs’ 3-0 win at Manchester United and missed the side’s 2-1 league defeat at Watford, but has given notice he could return for the Liverpool clash at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
Lloris has won 100 caps with France but missed the side’s UEFA Nations League matches against Germany and the Netherlands.
