Costa Adamant To Apologise To Di Francesco
By Joshua Walters
Douglas Costa has ignored calls on him to apologise to Di Francesco for spitting on him during Juventus’ 2-1 win over Sassuolo on Sunday.
According to the Brazilian left-footed winger, people are only saying so because they do not know what triggered his action.
“You don't know what he said to me. But no big deal... I say sorry to all those who I have to say it to, because I did wrong." Costa wrote on his Instagram page on Monday in response to calls that he apologised to Di Francesco.
Costa launched a late tackle on Di Francesco which targeted at the former’s ankle than the ball.
Di Francesco fell to the ground, was elbowed by the Juventus player even before he could stand up fully.
Costa replaced Mario Mandzukic in the 61st minute, and his bad tackle and elbow went unnoticed by referee Daniele Chiffi, who had his eyes on the ball as the incident led to a consolation goal for the visitors.
Di Francesco approached Costa before the restart, and the Brazilian unleashed violence on him again by giving him a headbutt.
This attracted a yellow card from the referee.
But, the duo did not stop there as Costa spat on Di Francesco’s face in what appeared to be a verbal confrontation between the two.
Costa, who was shown a second yellow and a subsequent red card, has since refused to apologise to the Di Francesco despite calls to do so.
