Chelsea Assistant Manager Fined For Goal Celebration

Chelsea’s assistant manager, Marco Ianni, has been fined £6000 by the Football Association for celebrating a goal in front of the Manchester United bench.

Ross Barkley’s injury-time equaliser in the 2-2 draw sparked wild celebrations from the Chelsea bench, but Ianni went a bit too far as he emerged from the entrance of the dugout to celebrate in front of Manchester United manager,  Jose Mourinho.

His celebration provoked the Portuguese trainer and resulted in a melee involving players and staff from both sides.

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri admitted his side was in the wrong after the game, and Ianni duly apologised to Mourinho.

The FA said Ianni had admitted to an “improper conduct charge” resulting in the fine. “It concerned his behavior in the 96th minute of the game against Manchester United on October 20, 2018.”

Mourinho’s involvement in the fracas earned him no punishment, but the Portuguese trainer was also “formally reminded of his responsibilities” at the bench.
